RANDTS will last a thousand years.

bring the survivors home

I wrote here previously about the importance of attracting quality professors to our Malaysian shores, especially our local talent that is now abroad. What convinces me of the existence of many quality Malaysian academia in the foreign world is not solid statistics, because that I cannot find.

What I do constantly come across is, however, random information about Malaysian professors. First, there is a Monash University professor in the Computer Information System in my school who happens to be from Setapak, Kuala Lumpur. Another person I just came across was Mr Chan Yau Man of Kota Kinabalu who is now a castaway on Survivor: Fiji. He is the Director of Information Systems for the College of Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley and an MIT graduate. I have to say MIT graduates would be of great service to Malaysian Universities. If we keep looking, I'm sure we'd find more. I am pretty convinced that there are Malaysians out there that we need to be working hard to lure back to our homeland.

Government policy pushes bright Malaysians away. As long as ultra-nationalism takes hold, pragmatism will never be seen.

i would really disagree with you there, arbitrary juggernaut. i see it as selfish and extremely self-interested to leave a country because it seems not to be as promising as others. for one, not everyone can leave, coz not everyone has the money to leave. do we then say, screw you less fortunate people for not being born into wealth. since i'm rich enough to get out of this bleak place, i'm leaving. since u aint got the opportunity, you can fight your way thru the injustices of the nation. I can often understand the rational behind our brain drain but I don't think that in any manner, does it justify it occuring. I'm not saying all malaysians working abroad are jerks. If the world needs you elsewhere and you feel you can contribute greater at some institution abroad, by all means leave. However,I am saying that if we start leaving only coz we think Malaysia's future is unpromising instead of being a revolutionary to change the future of malaysia, then maybe you shouldn't be called a malaysian in the first place. I believe in Malaysia, because I believe in the human race. No country is beyond progress, especially not Malaysia. We just need to be fighting for it, especially for the sake of those that can't leave to more fertile grounds. We shouldn't be saving our own asses unless of course we are one of those 'me first, screw the rest' jerks
