RANDTS will last a thousand years.

Food For Thought

Pictures (taken on the 24th of March 2007) of some of the dishes served in Crystal Jade Shanghai something-something restaurant, Lot 10, Kuala Lumpur (it's a new place). I apologise for my lack of memory to remember the names of dishes, and technical ability to execute better shots, but heck- here are some of my pictures after a long absence from RANDTS.

DSCN2622
Shanghai La Mian in sweet, sour and spicy Sze Chuan soup. As an individual who usually avoids Sze Chuan flavoured dishes, I was quite surprised to find this dish really awesome! I wanted more of it, but alas, my stomach prohibited...

DSCN2623
Hmmm, if I'm not mistaken, these are fragrant Pumpkin Balls. It took me some time to chew and then swallow them, but I have to say that I enjoyed doing so. Why? It's simply because it gets tastier with every chew, haha! The picture of the filling is displayed below.

DSCN2647
I think those are red bean paste and pumpkin seeds. Erm, looks like I got the name of this dish wrong...

DSCN2630
Dumplings in soup! I don't know how to properly and effectively explain this, but try, I shall. Those dumplings are really juicy, and full of flavour. It's like you can't stop having more once you've tasted one. Seriously.

DSCN2637
Oooops, I forgot to warn you not to read this, or even look at the pictures if you're having an empty stomach that's lined with gastric juice, haha! Glistening noodles that are slippery and exceptionally lengthy! Look at the pictures below to witness the 'dilemma'!

DSCN2641
That's my aunt who's handling the noodles. I suggest you eat any of the La Mian dishes with a friend, as co-operative effort is needed to get those noodles out of the bowl (if you're shifting them away from the 'mother bowl'), haha!

DSCN2639-1
And my dear friends, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want any of the soup/broth/whatever to be on your clothes, haha! So do take caution!

DSCN2652-1
This Chinese man is one of the chefs working in the open kitchen. He was trying to avoid eye contact with me AND my camera! Argh, why the shyness!? His picture would've turned out better if he made eye contact with the camera! *sighs* Not entirely his fault for being shy anyway...

DSCN2651
Uncooked food! Have you tried eating raw dumplings? Don't deny if you did. *evil snicker*

In a nutshell, this restaurant's food portions and taste, customer service, ambiance, and location beats Esquire Kitchen flat! I never really liked dining in Esquire Kitchen anyway (their signature siu long bao is terrible)... However, it's quite costly to dine in CJ compared to EK... But if you truly want to taste BETTER food, then CJ is the place to go!

Cheers, Hui Wen =)

P.S. Feedback is greatly welcomed, thank you. Oh yes, there was actually another dish, but the picture turned out horrible, and you're not going to see it! Plus, it's not as if it's worth anyone's admiration...

The food looks awesome. Pulled noodles look delicious. Red bean paste balls look yummy. Are they sticky?

Dumplings are always good. My father and paternal grandmother makes yummy ones too.

Too bad KL is not my place. Besides that I usually eat at small restaurants and place called William which serves the best Western food I ever tasted. We could eat at that place in the next RANDTS gathering as it's super near to my house.....adding to that the food is 1000% halal I assure you (Malays work and eat there). It's like a neo-mamak stall.

Yeah, the next RANDTS gathering where we can eat, drink, gossip, chat, discuss, crap, laugh, sing, take pictures and dance (perhaps)... Your favourite place sounds great!

Hmmm... yeah, they're sticky, but not THAT sticky. And I love dumplings! Especially the ones with prawns...
